SOMOS applies to become a legally registered non-profit foundation in Costa Rica.
The Costa Rica-USA Foundation provides small grant funds to SOMOS to support community-based projects in the area, among which are: Playa Tortuga Reserve, TurisTica Association, Local Tour Guide Association (ASOGUIBA), Uvita Town Council (ADIU), Reforestation Semilla de Ballena Project (GEOPORTER).
The SAFE BEACH security project to improve safety for visitors to Playa Hermosa (southern sector), Punta Lagarto in Marino Ballena National Park, and Playa Dominicalito runs from March 2018 - January 2019. The project is executed in collaboration with Lifeguards, Police, and youth at social risk.
SOMOS provides knowledge and skills to facilitate and monitor the legalization project of the Guardavidas Costa Ballena Association and the materialization of the contract for the hire of lifeguard's professional services to the Municipality of Osa.
Motivated by the natural disaster that caused flooding in Palmar Norte, Palmar Sur, the Fincas, and Siepre, SOMOS started the incubation project for Assistance in Emergency Situations and Human Wellbeing.
Presentation of the EYES ON THE STREET (OJOS EN LA CALLE) application at the Central American Integration System (SICA) hosted in El Salvador. The APP was part of the PREVJUVE program (Comprehensive Security Project and Prevention of violence that affects children, adolescents and young people in the SICA countries) of the United Nations Development Programe.
