This ground-breaking public-private partnership with the Municipality of Osa and the National Coastguard formalized an existing non-formal association, the Costa Ballena Lifeguards, that trains, manages and operates lifeguard services in the Costa Ballena region from Dominical to Playa Hermosa.

SOMOS assisted the Costa Ballena Lifeguards in becoming a legal organization capable of applying for public funds. Currently, SOMOS provides contract guidance, and a fundraising platform, convenes strategic meetings, and reviews strategic partnerships.

Since 2014 the Guardavidas have performed over 400 critical rescues, attended 100 medical incidents, and issued 8000 warnings in the southern zone.
