Semilla de Ballena is a reforestation project of native tree species implemented in the communities of Bahia and Uvita, Osa, Costa Rica to counter the strong environmental impact of tourism development in the area. The main goal of Semilla de Ballena is to incorporate local businesses (hotels, restaurants, tour operators, and related) and their customers in the reforestation program, and at the same time, raise awareness of the importance of protecting the forest resource for biodiversity and human welfare through the custody and sowing of native trees either in those areas identified within the PNMB or in private farms that have adequate space and characteristics for the growth and development of the trees. SOMOS provides Semilla de Ballena with professional services and access to funding through it’s 1% Pledge program.

Semilla de Ballena (socios: Geoporter Costa Rica) es un proyecto de reforestación con especies de árboles nativos implementado en las comunidades de Bahía y Uvita de Osa, Costa Rica para contrarrestar el impacto ambiental tan severo que ha causado el desarrollo turístico de la zona.  El objetivo del proyecto es incorporar a los comercios (hoteles, restaurantes, tour operadores, y empresas relacionadas) y sus clientes en el programa de reforestación, y a la vez, concientizar de la importancia de protección del recurso forestal para la biodiversidad y bienestar humano mediante la custodia y siembra de árboles nativos ya sea, en dichas áreas identificadas dentro del PNMB o en fincas privadas que cuenten con espacio y características adecuadas para el crecimiento y desarrollo de los árboles.
