SOMOS provided spaces and resources for the articulation of 17 community-based organizations, creating the Bahía Ballena Alliance of Organizations.
The result of that effort:
- Organizations aligned and working together
- Development of 1 strategic plan over the course of 3 workshops
- Production of 1 video as a communication strategy
The Alliance also achieved 1 additional hour open per week for the Marino Ballena National Park and improvement to conditions of a bill to create a Trust for the Marino Ballena National Park.
Continued support of Costa Ballena Lifeguards provides security for all visitors to Bahia Ballena District.
SOMOS’ efforts and resources were largely directed toward mitigating the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic in the communities within Costa Ballena. The short-term response was to provide food security through emergency aid and assistance. That transitioned into working alongside community organizations to incubate the creation of the Costa Ballena Disaster Relief Group, that is now a duly registered and fully functioning nonprofit organization.
SOMOS established an alliance with the Colegio de Cortés to expand the SELAL program to 25 more students from Cortés and surrounding communities graduating from SELAL for the January 2022 class.
SOMOS obtained counterpart funds to execute the ninth edition of SELAL and its expansion, raising US$30,000 to execute the 2022 SELAL program whereby 100 students benefited and 50 businesses and community leaders supported the program.
