SOMOS actively participated in the 3 public consultation workshops to update the Management Plan, a process in which the organizations that participated managed to include the focal management element: Livelihoods and cultural values linked to ecosystem services. The request was presented to make Aguja dos official as one of the main entrances of the PNMB.
SOMOS incubated the Chamber of Commerce and Tourism in Association with the private sector, which today is a duly registered and operating organization.
SOMOS participated in the first meeting of community foundations in Costa Rica, financed by the Mott Foundation and led by the non-profit Costa Rica Por Siempre. These meetings brought together 7 community foundations from different parts of Costa Rica.
Assisted the Chamber of Commerce and Tourism for the implementation of the initiative to convert Bahía Ballena as part of Electrical Routes in the Country.
Managed the Travelers’ Philanthropy from Bodhi Surf + Yoga Surf-A-Thon event. Funds raised were donated to INNOCEANA Blue Warrior Club and Conservation Divemaster Project. The Junior Blue Warrior Club focuses on connecting young people in the community with the wonders of our ocean, so that future generations protect it and become leaders against the ocean climate change.
The artisans of Boruca are recognized for their masks and other items of great value to this ancestral people. SOMOS has channeled funds to improve the working conditions of artisans. The funds were given to a group of artisans from Boruca to improve their workshop and cover their material needs.
Consolidated expansion of SELAL English Language and Leadership camp to Puerto Cortés/Palmar communities where over 150 students benefited in 3 locations: Puerto Cortés, Bahía Ballena & Puerto Jiménez with 90 companies and community leaders supporting the Program.
